Durga pooja reharsall starts.....
Ya, Bengali's associated with WVCA (west vishakha cultural association), starts their preparation for various cultural programmes, that will take place during the durga pooja time. I can't dance so i will be a part of the singing population. every thing that we do during this time of the festival has a Bengali touch in it. I am eagerly waiting for the pooja, i am sure every Bengali family is eager about the pooja.
The rehearsal will happen in the Community hall of WVCA, we will gather only on Sunday evenings. Its not only about Durga pooja, it becomes a meeting place for Bengali's in vizag who are associated with Bengali art and culture and can't live without it. We may learn many languages, but when it comes to mother tongue, the heart speaks, it gets an eternal relief, and that too when we get to hear lots of songs composed by Ravindra nath Tagore, various modern Bengali songs, etc. in the mother tongue.

Up coming festival, "GANESH POOJA"
Again the festival time, Ganesh pooja is not celebrated grandly by bengalis unlike the north and the south Indians. Here in Vizag there is a Bihari association, they celebrate Ganesh pooja in a grand way.Now why am i writing about Bihari's in this page which is only about Bengali's in Vizag? well theanswer to the question is- herein this city people from all cultures live very closely, every body donates and its a 4 days and night BHOG that happens. Bengalis are also invited, to the BHOG VITARAN.
Cultural event, followed by BHOG is what attracts bengali's during the Ganesh pooja.

Karmakar uncle passed away.
It was a very sad news for all Bengali's in Vizag. Karmakar uncle was a retired Navy person, he was a great lover of Music, its he who made sure all Bengali's get together on special occasion and organised musical shows, if not on stage at least at home.
He passed away on the 6th of june 2010. he was suffering from mild cold, which ultimately took his life away.......I remember him saying once "when i will not live on this earth, on my death anniversary organize a musical get together."
He was a very broad minded person, His elder daughter in law is an Oriya girl, and the younger daughter in law is from M.P. He always encouraged Young people to be sportive and fit, ate good food, sang song very well and hosted function very efficiently. He was a person with lot of humor also.
West Vishakha Cultural Association (WVCA) lost a very active and talented member, we all will miss you in this Durga Pooja, uncle.

Bengali new year day in Vizag
15th April was the new year day in the Bengali calender. Bengali's like always are looking for any small reason to get together, and new years day would be a very good reason.
West Vishakha Cultural Association (WVCA), which is established in Shriharipuram, organised a musical nite, we didn't have any popular singer singing, it was just all the Bengali house wives, their children who presented the show. Different poems of Kaviguru Ravindra nath Tagore were read, his composed songs were sang, Tabla specialist from Indian Navy assisted all the singers in Tabla. The function was followed by dinner.
Bengali's here in Vizag are not unaware of what Bengali culture means, we have many music teachers who are working in various institution and they teach music, dance and poetry to carry forward the rich Bengali culture among the growing generation.
